WATER SOFTENER RESIN
In water that is properly filtered and contains no chlorine, water softener resin will typically need to be replaced every 10 - 15 years.
Water with high levels of chlorine and iron can sometimes trash softener resins in 1-5 years. High chlorine levels can turn softening resin into a mush and cause a large pressure drop.
All water softeners should be preceded with at least a 20 micron sediment filter for best results.
TIP: Softener resin receiving chlorinated tap water can be extended to it's maximum service capacity by also adding some type of carbon filtration to remove the chlorine before it reaches the softening resin.
